Dolores Sloan, past President of the Society for Crypto-Judaic Studies (SCJS), is author of The Sephardic Jews of Spain and Portugal: Survival of an Imperiled Culture in the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries and Editor of The Secret Jews of Spain, Portugal, and Italy. She is Editor of the Journal of Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian Crypto Jews and former Editor of HaLapid, SCJS’s journal.
Ms. Sloan is presently providing curriculum support for the Sephardic and Crypto-Jewish Studies Program at the University of Colorado/Colorado Springs (UCCS), with which SCJS is affiliated. The program plans to offer Crypto Judaism in the Sephardic Diaspora in Fall 2014, the first university course offered on this subject. She teaches “Women in Jewish History and Culture” at Mount St. Mary’s College, Los Angeles, where she taught communications and public speaking from 2001-2010.
Ms. Sloan served as Director of Literature Programs for the New Mexico state arts agency and New Mexico Coordinator of DWI programs in the 1990’s. Her website is www.doloressloan.com. She lives in Southern California, where she enjoys the companionship of three grandchildren.
